Hoosier Pass elevation 11,542 ft (3,518 m) is a high mountain gap in the Rocky Mountains in central Colorado in the United States. The name is derived from Indiana, nicknamed "The Hoosier Country," which is the original home of many pioneers.
The Pass is located on the Continental Divide at the northern end of the Mosquito Range, in the gap between Mount Lincoln (west) and Hoosier Ridge (east). It sits on the border between Park (south) and Summit (north) district.
This route provides a route between the headwaters of the Blue River (the Colorado River tributary) to the north and the upper reaches of the South Platte River in South Park in the south. It is traversed by State Highway 9 between the towns of Breckenridge (north) and Fairplay (south). The highway above the gap provides an alternative route from Denver to the ski areas near Breckenridge and Keystone. It's generally open year-round, passable by all vehicles in good weather, but is sometimes closed during winter storms. The road through the gap has a subtle approach on the south side but has some diversion on the north side with an 8% value.
This pass is the highest point on the TransAmerica Trail, a cross-continental bicycle route that runs from Yorktown, Virginia to Astoria, Oregon.

Water diversion Edit
Hoosier Pass is the location of the oldest known transbasin diversion project in Colorado, a drainage stream from the Blue River tributaries to the Central Fork from the South Platte River. This water is used for placer mining above Alma. In 1929, 1.8 km (2.9 km) East Hoosier Ditch and 1.3 km (2 km) West Hoosier Ditch operated, capable of switching aggregate 77 cubic feet per second (2.2 m 3 /s) water across the continental border.
The city of Colorado Springs acquired the water rights for these trenches and built the Hoosier Pass Tunnel to replace them as part of the Continental-Hoosier Transfer System. The 10 feet (3 m) diameter 1.5 mile (2.4 km) tunnel was completed in 1951 and provided up to 500 cubic feet per second (14.2 m 3 /s) to Montgomery The reservoir is about a mile southwest of the gap, from which water is disbursed 70 miles (113 km) to Colorado Springs. The average annual switch through the tunnel has been in the order of 9000 acres feet (11 million m 3 ).
