Red (styled like RED ) is the fourth studio album by American singer-songwriter, Taylor Swift. The album was released on October 22, 2012 by Big Machine Records, as a follow up of her third studio album, Speak Now . The album title is inspired by Swift's "semi-toxic relationship" during the album's creation process, with Swift describing the emotion he perceives as "red emotion" because of his intense and tumultuous nature. Red touches on the Swift signature theme of love and heartbreak, however, from a more mature perspective while exploring other themes such as fame and pressure are at the center of attention. The album features collaborations with guest producers and artists such as Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol and Ed Sheeran bands, and is famous for Swift experiments with new music genres. Swift completed The Red Tour to support the album on June 12, 2014; The tour became an all-time best-selling tour by state artists, earning more than $ 150 million.

Red is just the 18th album in US history to sell a million copies in a week. It is also a major global success, becoming Swift's first chart-topper in the UK, and also topping the album charts in Australia, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand, while also charting in the top ten in every other major music market, including China.

All the different emotions that are written about this album are all about the kind of turbulent, insane, intense, intense, semi-toxic relationship I've experienced in the last two years. There is nothing better than that feeling.

In an interview with MTV News, the singer revealed that the album was "interesting because each song stands alone. This is a different patchwork blanket and different emotions, and I do not think anything on the recording sounds like We Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together ". Critical reception
At Metacritic, which gives a weighted average score of 100 for reviews and ratings from mainstream publications, the album received an average score of 77, based on 23 reviews, showing "favorable general reviews". Jon Dolan of Rolling Stone felt Swift has been influenced by Joni Mitchell and U2, writing that "his self-discovery project is one of the best stories in pop. When he's really active, his song is like a tattoo." > Billboard calls his most exciting "full-length" album to date "and says it" puts Swift the artist in front and center with a big, fat hook that goes beyond the roots of his country to a record that includes a genre that reaches heights which is invisible since Shania Twain's Up! . "Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic calls the pop recording" Pop "which shows virtually no trace of the country and says despite Swift's lyrics about romantic relationships and anxiety the social still sounds a bit awkward, they do not detract from the original "pop recipe" consisting of music: "If anything, this awkward, awkward humanize this giant pop monolith: he built something very precise, a success it seems destined, but behind it all, Taylor is still nervous, which makes Red not only interesting but interesting. " Spin Magazine Michael Robbins found Swift" too clever and clever to downplay his contradiction "on the album's added pop songs. In Randall Roberts, Randall Roberts was impressed by his ability to combines different musical styles as he "strives for something far more grand and successful" than a cynical standpoint Sputnikmusic Critic Channing Freeman claims that Red shows Swift's transition from one country to another, with music which unlike in the previous recording is "a complement to all the conflicting emotions that have existed in the lyrics for some time now." Jon Caramanica of The New York Times believes that "every moment of pure pop breakthrough is immediately forged by the time of contemplative country ".
Jonathan Keefe of Slant Magazine is less enthusiastic and says as a pop record, it's not consistent enough to be considered "really great" because some songs do not have the usual "spark" Swift. Nevertheless, he concludes that "the spotlight is Swift's best work of career, which now sounds like a pop star destined for him." Michael Gallucci from The A.V. Club found Swift's somewhat more "deeper and darker" lyrics, and the music was much more ambitious than previous recordings, but overall was a "complicated and sometimes unfocused" pop record. He thought the duo was boring, calling "State of Grace" and "All Too Well" "stunning work". Arnold Pan of PopMatters believes that some songs should have been edited on what is a transitional album for Swift, which avoids the country's pop-roots in favor of modern-rocked-up stylings. Writing for MSN Music , Robert Christgau saw Red as a minor version of 1999 Fields Magnetic 69 Love Songs album. He prefers his aggressive songs but also appreciates the more sentimental "Begin Again" and "Stay Stay Stay" songs, which "remain happy and hit just as hard".
