Hawthorn Suites is a chain hotel in the United States owned by Wyndham Worldwide.

Most Hawthorn Suites offer facilities such as meeting rooms, sports facilities, swimming pools, and free hot buffet breakfast and dinner. It competes with Hilton Homewood Suites, Hyatt Summerfield Suites, Marriott's Residence Inn, and InterContinental's Staybridge Suites in the upmarket upper middle segment of the extended-stay market. Because Hawthorn is not a fully exclusive extended-stay brand, however, Hawthorn can also compete with Marriott SpringHill Suites and Comfort Suites in the all-suite segment of an extended, all-suite from the market.

History

The chain was founded in 1983 and originally acquired in 1985 by the Pritzker family, owner of Hyatt Hotel Chain. The brand grew from 10 hotels to 17 during Pritzker's ownership. In 1996, Pritzker signed an agreement with US Franchise Systems, Inc. grant all franchise rights to Hawthorn Suites to USFS. In early 1998 USFS bought Hawthorn entirely from the Pritzker family and continued to grow the brand quickly, reaching over 100 hotels. In November 2000, Hawthorn Suites' parent company, US Franchise Systems, was bought by Pritzker family business interests. On July 21, 2008, Wyndham Worldwide purchased US Franchise Systems, Inc., owner of the Microtel Inns and Hawthorn Suites brand for $ 150 million. The US Franchise system had previously sold the Best Inn American chain (formerly Best Inns) to the Country Hearth Inns network to Mike and R. C. Patel's brothers (since renamed American's Best Franchising Inc.) in 2005.

As of September 2009, there are approximately 80 Hawthorn Suites locations and the brand continues to expand both across the country and around the world.
