Plot

In 1988, Daniel "Danny" Maccabee (Adam Sandler), a 22-year-old man, leaves his marriage just before the ceremony begins after learning that his fiancé is having an affair, and just marrying him because he is going to be a doctor. He went to drink alone in a bar, where a beautiful young woman walked in. He sees that Danny has a wedding ring in his hand, and asks him about his wife, which he describes how he recently left her for someone else, and the woman from the bar ends up sleeping with her.

Twenty-three years later, Danny (now 45 years old) is now a successful plastic surgeon in Los Angeles who pretends to marry an unhappy woman, and to avoid romantic commitments that can lead to heartbreak. The only woman who was aware of his plan was the office manager and his best friend Katherine Murphy (Jennifer Aniston), a divorced mother with two people. At a party, Danny meets Palmer (Brooklyn Decker), a sixth grade math teacher, without his wedding ring, and they have a connection together. The next morning, she finds the ring and considers her married. She refused to date her because her parents divorced for adultery.

Instead of telling the truth, Danny tells him that he's divorced from a woman named Devlin. Danny tells Palmer that they're divorced because he's having an affair with a guy named "Dolph Lundgren" (not an actor). Palmer then insisted on meeting Devlin. Danny asks Katherine to pose as "Devlin" and they go shopping for new clothes to dress like trophy wives.

Katherine/"Devlin" made up and then met with Danny and Palmer and gave them his blessing. However, upon hearing Katherine talking on the phone with her children, Palmer assumed that her children were Danny too. Danny then personally meets with Katherine's sons, Maggie (Bailee Madison) and Michael (Griffin Gluck), to make them play together and give them alias "Kiki Dee" and "Bart" respectively. Danny accepts their demands for becoming his artificial children.

Palmer meets the kids at the play center where Maggie has adopted a fake british accent, and Michael acts very moody. They squeeze Danny in front of Palmer to take them all to Hawaii. At the airport, they were all struck by Danny's goofball cousin Eddie (Nick Swardson), who had adopted the Austrian disguise as Danny's "Dolph Lundgren" before. To defend the lie, Danny and Katherine were forced to take it.

At a resort in Hawaii, Danny tells Eddie that he's considering asking Palmer to marry him. Katherine and Danny also met with Devlin Adams (Nicole Kidman) and her husband, Ian Maxtone-Jones (Dave Matthews). Because of Katherine and Devlin's old rivalry, Katherine introduced Danny as her husband rather than admitting she was a single mother. Over time, Katherine was impressed by Danny and how to have fun with her children.

Katherine ran back to Devlin, who invited her and Danny for dinner. Eddie agreed to take Palmer dinner so Danny could go with Katherine. Since he was supposed to be a sheepman, Eddie's cover was almost destroyed when he was forced to save the life of a lamb choked by a toy whistle. At dinner, Devlin asks Danny and Katherine to tell each other what they admire the most, and, when Danny and Katherine talk, they begin to feel the connection. Later, when Palmer and Eddie returned from their dinner date, Palmer suggested that she and Danny marry now, since drunk Eddie told of Danny's engagement plan. Danny and Katherine were both surprised by his proposal, but Danny finally agreed. Danny then summoned Katherine about her confusion, but Katherine said that she would take a job in New York City to get a fresh start in her life.

The next day, Palmer confronts Katherine about Danny's feelings for her, which Katherine rejected. Katherine then ran to Devlin in a bar and admitted that she pretended to marry Danny to avoid embarrassment. Devlin admitted that he divorced Ian because he was gay and also that he did not create the iPod, but made his money by suing Los Angeles Dodgers after being hit by a dirty ball. Katherine confesses in Devlin about falling in love with Danny, but then Danny comes up behind her, saying that she does not marry Palmer and that she is in love with Katherine. Meanwhile, on the plane ride back to the mainland, Palmer meets a professional tennis player (Andy Roddick) who shares his interest. Sometime later, Danny and Katherine got married.

Production

Originally titled "Holiday in Hawaii", and then "Pretend Wife", it was released as "Just Go with It".

The film was taken in Los Angeles and the Hawaiian islands of Maui and Kauai between March 2, 2010 and May 25, 2010. The film is deliberately made vague about which Hawaiian island is depicted by its last section; thus, the characters climb the rope bridge in Maui and arrive at the next scene in a spectacular waterfall on Kauai, rather than the usual irrigation dams and ponds on Maui where the actual walkway ends.

The character lives in a Hawaiian hotel called the Waldorf Astoria. In fact, the film was taken at Grand Wailea on Maui, owned by Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts.

One of the jokes in this movie is the scene where Decker's character meets his obvious soul mate - professional tennis player Andy Roddick - as Decker and Roddick is actually married.

Critical response

At Rotten Tomatoes, the film received an 18% rating, based on 137 reviews, with an average rating of 3.8/10. The site's consensus reads: " Just Go With It may be slightly better than some entries in a horribly recent rom-com genre, but that's far from a recommendation. " At Metacritic, the film has a score of 33 out of 100, based on 31 critics, showing "generally poor reviews".

The Telegraph is named Just Go with It in the list of "its ten worst films of 2011", saying it was "a bad and excessive remake of Cactus Flower , presented as a dirty romcom of serial fraud. "Christopher Orr of The Atlantic noted that" the title itself appears to be a request for the patience of the audience "and is part of a disappointing trend that involves" good new concepts, if perhaps not quite classical, films related to the 1960s and early 1970s. " Entertainment Weekly ' Lisa Schwarzbaum writes that Just Go With It " survived the disaster, though, by Jennifer Aniston "who has" expert comic timing "and" playing like an adult. "
