"I'm going to Disney World! " and "I'm going to Disneyland! " is the advertising slogan used in a series of television commercials by The Walt Disney Company which began airing in 1987. Used to promote corporate amusement park resorts in Florida and California, the most frequently aired commercials after the Super Bowl and usually featuring NFL players (usually the Super Bowl MVP) who shout out phrases while celebrating the team's victory immediately after the championship game. The ad also promotes champions from other sports, and non-sport competition winners like American Idol .

Format

Disney refers to the campaign as "What's Next?" refers to a common commercial format, which has a star seems to answer questions posed by an invisible narrator - "What will you do next?" - after his victory moment. The narrator is Mark Champion, a veteran-by-play radio broadcaster for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions, Detroit Pistons, and Westwood One. Most of the ads show the song "When You Wish Upon a Star" and end with a fireworks shoot above Cinderella Castle or Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Usually the stars record two versions of the ad, one for each phrase, so the ads can be broadcast in various American media markets to strategically promote Walt Disney World Resort in Florida or Disneyland Resort in California. In most cases, Disney arranges for its stars to appear in a parade at Disneyland or one of Walt Disney World's theme parks on the day immediately after the victory to fulfill the verbal promise in one version.

History

In his 1998 memoir Working in Progress, Disney CEO Michael Eisner praised his wife, Jane, for the idea of a campaign. According to Eisner, at the opening of January 1987 for the Star Tours attraction in Disneyland, the couple had dinner with Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager, who in December 1986 had piloted the first plane to fly around the world without stopping or refueling. After Jane Eisner asked what the next pilot would do, they replied, "We're going to Disneyland." She then tells her husband that the phrase will create a great advertising campaign.

A few weeks later, Disney launched the following series Super Bowl XXI on January 25, 1987 with an ad featuring New York Giants midfielder Phil Simms. Simms has paid $ 75,000 reported for his participation. The company then aired three more commercials that year with other athletes following the major sports championships.

Ray Lewis was named Super Bowl XXXV MVP, but due to poor attention to the Lewis murder trial involved in the previous year, the signature phrase "I'm going to Disney World!" awarded instead of quarterback Trent Dilfer, who is a game manager.

In subsequent years, Disney is reported to have offered $ 30,000 to athletes and other stars to participate in ads and to appear in one of the theme parks.

Although Tom Brady was named MVP of the Super Bowl LI, he gave Disney a trip for teammate James White.

2006 restore

In 2006, the campaign continued before Super Bowl XL as Disney projected scenes from a 20-year history of campaigning to the Detroit skyscraper in the days before the game. During a television broadcast, Disney aired an ad featuring members of Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks who practiced how they would deliver the famous phrase while preparing for the game. The following day, the company began delivering traditional "What's Next" ads featuring Steelers Hines Ward and Jerome Bettis. Though it's not part of an ad purchase in 2016, Peyton Manning says the famous phrase in an interview after the Super Bowl 50.
