Marriott Hotel & amp; Resorts is Marriott International's full-service hotel and resort brand. The company, based in Bethesda, Maryland, was repeatedly included on the list of Best Forbes Companies to Work, and was voted fourth best employer working in the UK by The Times in 2009.

As of September 2017, there are 566 hotels and resorts operating under the brand. This loyalty program is called Marriott Rewards.

Current history and operation

The Marriott chain started with two motels in the 1950s. The first opened as a Quality Inn airport motel near Washington D.C. and another nearby motel, Twin Bridge, a few years later. With the opening of the second motel, Marriott was born as a brand name. The Twin Bridges property was demolished in 1990, but the Lock Bridge property still operates, but as a full service hotel.

In 1967, Marriott opened its first resort hotel, Camelback Inn, in Arizona, USA. Marriott Hotel & amp; The resort expanded outside the United States for the first time in 1969 with the opening of Marriott in Acapulco, Mexico.

In 1975, Marriott Hotel & amp; The resort has been extended to Europe, with the opening of the Amsterdam Marriott hotel in 1975.

In the first few decades, Marriott International owns and manages many hotels in its portfolio. In 1993, the company decided to discontinue the operation of the real estate ownership as a new company, Host Marriott, while retaining the hotel management services under the name of the Marriott International company.

In 1999, there were more than 360 Marriott Hotels & amp; Resorts in 47 countries, and in 2012 Marriott Hotels & amp; The resort celebrates the opening of the 500th Marriott Hotel & amp; Resort property, Pune Marriott Hotel & amp; Convention Center, in Pune, India. In April 2014 Marriott Hotels & amp; Resorts acquired The Protea Hotel Group in South Africa re-brand Protea Hotels to Protea Hotels By Marriott
