A circus flea is a spectacular circus attraction in which fleas are mounted (or apparently attached) to miniature wagons and other items, and are encouraged to perform circus acts in small housing.

The first record of the tick show comes from watchmakers demonstrating their metalworking skills. In 1578, Mark Scaliot produced keys and chains attached to a louse. The first flea circus record was recorded back to the early 1820s, when an Italian impresario named Louis Bertolotto advertised an "extraordinary flea aphid exhibition" at Regent Street, London. Some flea circus survived in very small places in the United States in the late 1960s. The flea circus at Belle Vue Zoological Gardens, Manchester, England, was still operating in 1970. At least one genuine louse circus still performs (in the annual Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany) and Svensons in the UK sometimes uses real fleas, but most of the circus is a distraction of witches and clowns, and uses electrical or mechanical effects instead of real lice.

Techniques with real bugs

Ticks usually live for only a few months and are not trained. Ticks are observed to see if they have a tendency to jump or walk. Once sorted, they are used carefully by wrapping a thin golden wire around their neck. Once in the harness, lice usually stay in it for life. Harness is mounted on props and strong legs from ticks allow them to move objects significantly larger than themselves. Flea jumps are used to kick a small light ball. They were given the ball with care; when they try to jump (which is impossible due to harness), they instead shoot the ball. Fleas can pull small carts and vehicles or turn the Ferris wheel.

There is a history report on lice attached to the bottom of the lice cage. The miniature instrument is then affixed to the ticker player and the cage is heated. The louse struggles to escape, giving the impression of playing the instrument.

Techniques without real bugs

Some flea circus may seem to use real lice, but the reality is not. Various electrical, magnetic, and mechanical devices have been used to add exhibits. In some cases, this mechanism is responsible for all "actions", with loose fleas in the exhibition sustaining illusions. These circuses are known as the "Humbug" flea circus. Michael Bentine gave the usual slot mechanical flea circus on his television show, It's the Square World in the 1960s. In much the same way that viewers know that a woman will not actually be cut in half, the playover ability allows viewers to suspend distrust to enjoy the show.
