Route description
SR 76 begins at an arbitrary point east of the intersection with Brandermill Parkway, the main road through the planned community of Brandermill. Drive west as SR 652 (Old Hundred Road) to Roseland. SR 76 leads east as a three-lane road with two lands to the north and one lane to the south. State highway becomes a highway at the intersection with SR 754 (Charter Colony Parkway), which will give access to SportsQuest. East SR 754, the highway extends to two lanes in each direction and gets the median. SR 76 has a clover tree intersection with the SR 288 freeway, east where the highway becomes a freeway and crosses Falling Creek. The state highway has the first toll square to the west of the diamond intersection with SR 653 (Courthouse Road). The exit to the north and the southern entrance to SR 653 deviates from the highway to the west of the toll plaza and passes the barrier separately before cutting off the intersection. The exit to the south and the northern entrance each have a toll road square before rejoining SR 76.
SR 76 turns northeast and meets US 60 (Midlothian Turnpike) at a clover crossing with a distributor-collector path. The southern entrance has a right-in/right-out intersection with SR 953 (Arboretum Parkway), which serves a business park. The collector-distributor paths each have a toll road square at their northern end, where a toll highway starts following Powhite Creek and passes through its retaining, Rock Creek Park Lake. SR 76 has partial clover overlap with SR 686 (Jahnke Road) and SR 150 (Chippenham Parkway) next to Powhite Park. The exchange with SR 150, located on the border between Chesterfield County and the independent city of Richmond, includes a flyover south of SR 76 to the south of SR 150 and has no ramps from the north of SR 76 to the south of SR 150 and from the north SR 150 to SR 76 south. The lost movement is provided through SR 686. The Northern SR 150 is a staggered toll road for each direction, each with three Express E-ZPass lanes alongside a standard toll plaza. East of the SR 76 expressway pass under the Richmond District on Norfolk Southern Railway and has a partial intersection with Forest Hill Avenue; This intersection has a highway plazas and provides access to and from the north.
SR 76 leads north from Forest Hill Avenue as a ten-lane road that crosses the James River and the Riviva Subdivision CSX on the Powhite Parkway Bridge, just south of Powhite Creek's mouth. Two lanes from each direction separate northeast to SR 146, which serves as an extended ramp from north 76 SR to and south of SR 76 from SR 195 (Downtown Expressway), an east-west toll road connecting SR 76 and I-95 in Downtown Richmond. At the partial intersection, the north road leads to pass under CSX's North End Subdivision, which begins running on the freeway's median. North of SR 146, SR 76 has a partial clover junction with Douglasdale Road and McCloy Street which has no road south of SR 76 and provides access to the Municipal Stadium; ramps to and from the north have toll roads plazas. A pair of ramps to and from the south leading to SR 147 (Cary Street) and SR 6 (Patterson Avenue) separated from the highway just south of the north terminal at I-195 (Beltline Expressway). The exchange with I-195 is a partial exchange, providing access between SR 76 and I-195 northward towards I-95 and I-64.

The original section of the Powhite Parkway from I-195 to SR 150 in the city of Richmond was built by the Richmond Metropolitan Authority and opened in January 1973. The expansion of the highway to the southwest beyond SR 288 in Chesterfield County was built by VDOT and opened in November 1988. Toll collection electronics began at Powhite Parkway in 1999 when the Smart Tag system began operating on the highway toll. The highway becomes an E-ZPass that can be accessed when Smart Tags are absorbed into the E-ZPass system in 2005. Richmond's mainline expressway toll is reconstructed with a staggered plaza for every E-ZPass Express and lane path in 2008. The term plan Long there for the extension of the Powhite Parkway to the US 360 near the Skinquarter.
