Westin
Westin Hotels and Resorts is Starwood's largest upscale hotel and resort brand. It was the oldest brand in Starwood, founded as a Western Hotel in 1930, renamed Western International Hotels in 1963, and then Westin Hotels in 1981. The chain was purchased by Starwood in 1994.
Sheraton
Sheraton is Starwood's flagship brand, providing luxury hotel and resort accommodations. It started operations in 1937 and was sold to Starwood in 1998 by ITT. Also under the Sheraton brand are seven vacation property ownership.
Luxury Collection
The Luxury Collection brand began on January 13, 1992, when ITT Sheraton assigned 28 major hotels and 33 from Sheraton Towers, a luxurious "hotel-in-hotel" facility located within the largest and most exclusive hotel at the Sheraton, as ITT Sheraton Luxury Collection . The flagship of this division is The St Regis in New York City.
This division grew enormous two years later, in February 1994, when ITT Sheraton purchased a controlling stake in CIGA (Compagnia Italiana Grandi Alberghi, or Italian Grand Hotels Company), an Italian international hotel chain that has a number of luxury properties throughout Europe. The majority of CIGA hotels are folded into the ITT Sheraton Luxury Collection. Both ITT Sheraton and then Starwood retained the original CIGA logo (four St Marks) for the Luxury Collection brand logo until 2010; every Luxury Collection hotel now uses its own logo. After Starwood bought the Sheraton, they set a separate brand identity for The Luxury Collection and developed it. Many hotels in The Luxury Collection are smaller places in altered palaces or other important buildings; the other restored the historic hotel.
Some hotels in The Luxury Collection, which were originally part of ITT Sheraton's Luxury Collection, kept their Sheraton's name when the Luxury division was separated as a completely separate brand under Starwood. Most have been replaced over the last few years, there are only three such hotels left today, operating under the Sheraton name, but not technically part of Sheraton - Sheraton Addis (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia), Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit (Bangkok, Thailand) , and Sheraton Kuwait Hotel (Kuwait City, Kuwait).
Part of the Collection, Royal Penthouse Suite, at Hotel President Wilson in Geneva, billed at US $ 65.000 per night, listed at number 1 in the list of 15 World's Most Expensive Hotels compiled by CNN Go in 2012.

Although the hotel varies from the newly built main property to the more modest conversion of the previous hotel, the hotel has common themes such as modern minimalist and hip decor, informal names for both room and public areas. For example, all hotel lobbies are known as "Living Room". W Hotels tries to enter the letter "W" wherever possible - the swimming pool is known as "Wet" and the laundry bag in each room is known as "Wash".
