Tour packages, holiday packages , or holiday packages consist of transport and accommodation advertised and sold jointly by vendors known as tour operators. Other services may be provided such as rental cars, activities or sightseeing events during the holidays. Transportation can be through charter airlines to foreign countries, and may also include inter-regional travel as part of a holiday. The package holiday is a form of product bundling.
The holiday package is arranged by the tour operator and sold to the consumer by the travel agent. Some travel agents are employees of tour operators, others are independent.

Organized tour
The first organized tour was dated back to Thomas Cook who, on July 5, 1841, hired a train to take a group of simplistic campaigners from Leicester to a rally in Loughborough, eleven miles away. In 1872 he toured around the world, albeit with small groups. His company, Thomas Cook & amp; Son (commonly called Thomas Cook or simply "Cook's"), grew into one of the largest and most famous travel agents before it was nationalized in 1948.
With the gradual decline of visits to the British coastal resorts after the Second World War, Thomas Cook & Son began promoting foreign holidays (mainly Italy, Spain and Switzerland) in the early 1950s. Information films are screened at city halls across the UK. But they make expensive decisions by not going to a new form of cheap holiday that combines transport and accommodation arrangements into one package. The company declined and was only rescued by consortium purchases on May 26, 1972.
Group tour
Vladimir Raitz, co-founder of Horizon Holiday Group, spearheaded the first holiday package abroad with charter flights between Gatwick and Corsica airports in 1950, and organized the first holiday package to Palma in 1952, Lourdes in 1953, and the Costa Brava and Sardinia in 1954. In addition, the amendment made at Montreal at the International Civil Aviation Convention on June 14, 1954 was very liberal to Spain, enabling a boost to mass tourism using charter plane.
In the late 1950s and 1960s, this cheap holiday package - which combines flights, transfers, and accommodation - provides the first opportunity for most people in the UK to have an affordable trip abroad. One of the first charter airlines was Euravia, which started flights from Manchester Airport in 1961 and Luton Airport in 1962. Despite the mass tourism opening to Crete and Algarve in 1970, the package tour industry declined during the 1970s. On August 15, 1974, the industry was shaken by the collapse of the second largest tour operator, Court Line, operating under the brand name Horizon and Clarksons. Nearly 50,000 tourists were stranded overseas and over 100,000 people faced a lost money ordering.
In 2005, more and more consumers are avoiding holiday packages and instead traveling with low-cost airlines and booking their own accommodation. In the UK, the decline in the package holiday market led to the consolidation of the tour operator market, which is now dominated by several major tour operators. The main operators are Thomson Holidays and First Choice part of TUI AG and Thomas Cook AG. Under this umbrella brand are different holiday operators that serve different markets, such as Club 18-30 or traveleze. Budget airlines have also created their own holiday package divisions like Jet2 Vacation.
Vacation package booking trends declined in 2009, as customers sought greater financial security after a number of holiday and airline companies went bankrupt, and as the hidden costs of 'no-frills' flights increased. Coupled with a search for the ultimate holiday as travelers leaving reservations until the last minute, this led to an increase in consumer bookings for holiday packages.
