Lolita Tizol is an early 20th century Puerto Rico music educator from Ponce.

Initial years
Lolita Tizol Laguardia was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on June 19, 1890. Her parents are Cosme Tizol and Saturnina Laguardia. He started his basic education in Ponce, under the direction of Emilia RibiÃÆ'à © de Christian at Colegio Hermanas de la Caridad and at the American Free School.
When he was 10 years old he started taking music classes with his father who, seeing his musical talent, taught him to play the violin. He later studied with Domingo Cruz ("CocolÃÆ'a") and Aberrano ColÃÆ'ón. He also studied under Brindis de Salas, a Cuban musician, while Salas lives in Puerto Rico. As his musical ability became known, Lolita was offered a scholarship to study music in Boston. His father, however, advised him that in Puerto Rico the music was not given proper recognition, and sent him to Alabama to study his education and prepare him as a teacher.

Teaching career
Tizol Laguardia graduated with a degree in Education and a specialization in Home Economics. Returning to Puerto Rico five years after going to Alabama, Tizol took the required Puerto Rican teacher's exam and began teaching at Barrio Semil at Juana Diaz in 1909. A year later he taught at Coamo at the Roman Baldorioty de Castro school and then at Segundo School Ruiz Belvis in Barrio Playa, Ponce. He is also the principal at Segundo Ruiz Belvis school, Horace Mann, and Rafael Pujals, all in Ponce.
Tizol spent his life educating children when most people in Ponce, as most of Puerto Rico, do not know how to read and write, and when teachers are paid only $ 50USD per month, even in big cities. In this situation, Tizol, overcoming all challenges, gives himself to help others.
Headmistress
At Ponce he also became principal at Rafael Pujals school. Tizol Laguardia was the first principal to institute a school lunch program and, later, a breakfast program for malnourished children.
Other activities
Tizol Laguardia is also a member of the Ponce Symphony Orchestra. He also toured the island for a concert.
Awards
For his dedication and talent, a statue named Ponce Honra A Su Maestra: Lolita Tizol was founded in his memory adjacent to the Tricentennial Park park in Ponce, with a plaque that read: Ponce Honra A Su Maestra: Lolita Tizol i> Ponce Respect His Master: Lolita Tizol). He died in Ponce on 25 April 1933, at the age of 42 years.
Legacy
- In Ponce there is a street in the Historic Zone of Ponce named after him.
- In Ponce there is also a Tizol statue with two disciples.
- Also at Ponce, she is recognized in the Garden for the Villager of Ponce Terang.
