Lakeway is a town in Travis County, Texas, United States. The population was 11,391 at the 2010 census; up from 8.002 in 2000. The town is located next to Lake Travis. This is not a suburb in Greater Austin.

History
Lakeway City was established on the site of a 2,700-hectare ranch owned by Houston oilman and breeder Jack (Jake) Josey. As early as 1962, three Houston business men associated with Gulfmont Hotel Company-G. Flint Sawtelle, John H. Crooker, Jr., and Lee Blocker - gained a sixty-day option to buy land and plan hotel and resort communities. The Lakeway name is a natural sequel to the Fairway Motor Hotel in Gulfmont in McAllen, Texas, so named for ignoring the fairway of the golf course. Construction of the hotel began in October 1962 and its opening was July 12, 1963. Around the same time the Company Land Lakeway was formed with Flint Sawtelle as president, for real estate development. In July 1974 most residents and nonresident property owners chose to combine with the approval of the city of Austin, and the 1,200 acre Lakeway village was produced.
Demographics
In the 2000 census, there were 8,002 people, 3,124 households, and 2,496 families living in the city. Population density was 1,379.4 people per square mile (532.7/km 2 ). There are 5,249 housing units with an average density of 1,119.5 per square mile (233.1/km 2 ). City's racial makeup is 92.4% White, 1% African American, 0.3% Native Americans, 3.2% Asian,% of other races, and 2.1% of two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race is 7.3% of the population.
There are 3,124 households in which 34.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.1% are married couples living together, 6.9% have housekeeping women. 16.5% of all households are individuals and 6.8% have a self-sufficient 65 or over. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 2.84.
In the city, the population is spread by 24.7% under the age of 18, 3.5% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 28.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% years or more. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 women, there are 95.2 men. For every 100 women age 18 and over, there are 90.9 men.
The average income for households in the city is $ 86,862, and the average income for families is $ 94,266. Men have an average income of $ 70,211 versus $ 38,879 for women. The per capita income for the city is $ 45,765. About 1.8% of families and 3.1% of the population are below the poverty line, including 4.0% of those under the age of 18 and 3.3% of those aged 65 and older.
Education
Primary and secondary schools
The Lakeway City is served by Lake Travis Independent School District (LTISD). Three elementary schools, Lake Travis Elementary, Lakeway Elementary School, and Serene Hills Elementary School, serve part of the Lakeway. Two high schools located in unofficial areas outside Lakeway, Hudson Bend Middle School and Lake Travis Middle School, take part of the Lakeway. All Lakeways are categorized to Travis Lake High School.
Prior to 2008, most of the land in the Lakeway town limits were categorized to Lake Pointe Elementary.
Public library
Lake Travis Community Library (LTCL) at Lakeway serves the community. The building, with an area of ​​11,000 square feet (1,000 m 2 ), is located in the Tuscan Village area. It was originally opened at Lake Travis SMA in 1985. Area voters approved the establishment of a library district serving libraries created in May 2004. Haythem Dawlett donated the land for the library in March 2011, and the library moved to its current location in February 2013.

It will have an imaging center with MRI, CT scanner and X-ray machine; 16-bed emergency room and heliport; lab services; and outpatient clinics. It will also include facilities for cardiovascular, orthopedic, pediatric, obstetric and gynecological care, general surgery, nephrology and dialysis, and infusion centers.
