Deephaven is a town in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States, on the shores of Lake Minnetonka. It's sixteen miles from Minneapolis. The population was 3,642 in the 2010 Census, down from 3,853 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the US Census Bureau, the city has a total area of ​​2.43 square miles (6.29 km 2 ), which is 2.37 square miles (6.14 km 2 ) is ground and 0.06 square miles (0.16 km 2 ) is water. Minnetonka Boulevard serves as the main route.

At the 2010 census, there were 3,642 people, 1,337 households, and 1,058 families living in the city. Population density was 1,536.7 souls per square mile (593.3/km 2 ). There are 1,423 housing units with an average density of 600.4 per square mile (231.8/km 2 ). City's racial makeup is 97.6% White, 0.4% African American, 0.1% Native Americans, 0.9% Asian, 0.3% of other races, and 0.7% of two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race is 1.1% of the population.

The historic Cottagewood General Store is located in Deephaven, and opened in 1895 by Ralph M. Chapman, to serve as a wholesaler for tourists along the shores of Lake Minnetonka.

Important facts

Mahala Dutton-Douglas (1864-1945), survivor of the Titanic disaster as a first-class passenger, lives in Deephaven. Walter Donald Douglas and his wife, Mahala Dutton-Douglas, built twenty-seven rooms in 1910 at the site of the former Saint Louis Hotel. This property is named "Walden". Walter Donald Douglas was killed in the Titanic disaster, however, Mahala Dutton-Douglas and his French assistant, Berthe Leroy, survived. The Douglas family founded the Quaker Oats Company, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
