The terms city limits and city limits â € refer to the specified city limits or limits. The area within the city limits is sometimes called the right city. The terms city/boundary limits and village boundaries have the same meaning as city limits, but apply to cities and villages. Similarly, the term company boundary is the official name that refers to the boundaries of a municipal enterprise. In some countries, municipal boundaries can be extended through annexation.

In the United States, such restrictions are usually formally defined in state, provincial or territorial (or appropriate) laws as they are under the control of a city-state company or entity that is a municipal government. It is common to show city limits with post signs on major highways, highways, and arterial roads. Note that the New England states have a unique concept of "city", which has the same size as civilian cities in other countries, but is empowered with the authority exercised by municipalities in other countries.
Property within the city limits subject to city tax and city regulations, and expect municipal services. Areas outside the city limits are considered unrelated, and in most US states, by default they are regulated and taxed by the county. In other countries, areas outside the city limits are included in other types of local government, such as the municipal (regional) municipality. Cities and cities may have extraterritorial jurisdiction beyond their limits, usually for zoning purposes. This widespread range varies by population or city area, or that the "class" is considered to be under state law.
House rules within the city limits are usually done by the mayor (executive branch) and city council (legislative branch). House rules outside the city limits are usually carried out by regional commissions (which are often both legislative and executive), or municipal overseers. Even without house rules, the county, as a unit of state government, also has certain powers and responsibilities even within the limits of its cities, including evicting sheriffs, running county jails that all city and county police departments arrest people who was arrested. for, and guarding the courthouse for county state courts though usually within the county seat city limits. Elections and health departments are also the responsibility of the common area covering all cities. (Residents of the city still pay some local taxes for this reason.)
If a city chooses to have its own emergency services, they only have jurisdiction within the city limits, except for mutual assistance (usually between fire departments) in the event of a disaster. The telephone company must also track changes to the city limits to ensure that calls to 9-1-1 are directed to the corresponding public security pointers if the city operates a separate PSAP from the region. Calls from mobile phones are usually directed based on base station locations rather than calling parties, so this (along with home phone calls to non-emergency phone numbers) must be handled manually by the telephone operator or dispatcher, determining whether the caller or incident is within certain city limits or not so that the proper authority can be sent.
The city limits can extend to more than one region, which can complicate certain issues of policing and taxation. (For example, sales tax revenues collected in a city by an area should not be spent in other parts of the city outside the area.) Where a city combines its government with its district to become a consolidated city, the city is usually considered to be expanded to occupy all territories previously unrelated to the county, while other existing cities continue to exist but are permanently locked into their city limits without the possibility of annexation (except perhaps to neighboring areas). The independent city limits separate it from being in any area at all. Similarly, cities and towns may or may not be considered part of their municipality [s].
City, city, and village boundaries are usually not bordered by post office or ZIP postal/zip code, and USPS and Canada Post even consider some "unacceptable" places to be used in the mail. (For example, part of Sandy Springs is within the city limits but outside of 30328 should use "Atlanta, GA" instead.) Other school districts and special-purpose districts can be spread out in towns, or cities can choose to own - but , this is often under other authorities.
City limits are often the radius of the train depots, and some still remain this way.

In England, the city limits are harder to determine, because the English cities are defined as any city, regardless of their size, which has been granted patent letters. In smaller towns, such as Wells (pop.approx.10,000) or Gloucester (pop.Around 100,000), the boundaries will be governed by the city council, although in certain cases like Carlisle, this may include large countryside and even areas which is uninhabited. In the case of big cities, such as Birmingham (pop 1,000,000), certain metropolitan boroughs will make definitions. Ironically, London is the largest city that is perhaps the most difficult to define, because different people have different definitions ranging from London City to anywhere within the M25 highway. However, the most accurate definition is probably the outer boundary of the outer Outer London Borough.
Although municipal boundaries are often important to define local services such as garbage collection, schools, libraries and planning (zoning), they play little or no role in law enforcement or hospitals. Police jurisdiction and local service are generally determined by regional boundaries, and people in one area usually decide to use hospitals, libraries, and schools at other schools without incurring any cost.
The planning (zoning) of law around British cities is generally dictated by the green belt law, which prevents rural development from immediately encircling large and medium-sized cities.
