Ace Hotel is a hotel chain headquartered in Portland, Oregon. Founded in 1999 in Seattle, it operates hotels primarily in the United States, with locations in Portland, Oregon; New York City; Palm Springs, California; Seattle; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Los Angeles; and New Orleans. It also owns hotels in Panama City, Panama; and London, England.

History
The first Ace Hotel opened in 1999. Friends of Alex Calderwood, Wade Weigel, and Doug Herrick bought and turned a home in Seattle into an affordable hotel that would appeal to a creative class. Calderwood and Weigel have previously established Rudy, a rejuvenated traditional barbershop concept that began in Seattle, which eventually expanded to more than a dozen West Coast locations. They also founded Neverstop, a marketing and advertising company.
In 2006, Jack Barron and Michael Bisordi (Tungsten Partners) joined the team as owners. That year the group opened its second hotel in Portland, followed by properties in Palm Springs and New York in 2009.
In 2011, Ace Hotel collaborated with airline brand cosmetics uslu to create nail polish sold in hotel mini-bars.
In 2013, Ace Hotel opened in Shoreditch neighborhood in London. The company opened the property in Panama City, Panama, as American Trade Hotel.
Calderwood has set a goal to open a new Ace Hotel every "one to two years". He died at the age of 47 in November 2013, shortly after the opening of the London Shoreditch hotel.
Shortly thereafter, the downtown Los Angeles location opened in the former theater, followed by a hotel in Pittsburgh in late 2015 and in New Orleans in the spring of 2016.
A location in Kyoto, Japan designed by Kengo Kuma is expected to open in late 2019.

According to Calderwood, the style and furnishings of each Ace property are designed to reflect its location, with views on "rejected" re-imagined properties.
- Ace Hotel Seattle is a former half-street Salvation Army located in the Belltown neighborhood.
- Ace Hotel & amp; Swim Club in Palm Springs, CA is a converted Howard Johnson motel, formerly Westward Ho. King's Highway, the on-site hotel restaurant, is a converted Denny's. There are two bars, Amigo Room, and poolside, Short Bus. The remodel was a collaboration with the L.A. based design firm, Commune.
- Ace Hotel Portland occupies the former Clyde Hotel in downtown Portland. In previous incarnations, the hotel lobby serves as a venue for a scene from the Drugstore Cowboy movie. This property is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
- Ace Hotel New York works with Roman and Williams to redesign former Breslin Hotel, a 1904 building in Midtown Manhattan. This location features the Stumptown Coffee and Chef April Bloomfield restaurant, Michelin The Breslin.
- Ace Hotel London Shoreditch is located in London's Shoreditch district of art, on the premises of the Royal Shoreditch music building.
- American Trade Hotel is a restored five-storey stadium building in Casco Viejo's historic district of Panama City.
- Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles opened in January 2014 at the historic United Artists Building, with 180 rooms and a restored Theater of the American Artists venue.
- Ace Hotel Pittsburgh opened at the historic YMCA building in the East Liberty neighborhood of the city in December 2015.
- Ace Hotel New Orleans opened in March 2016 at the 1928 Art Deco building in New Orleans' Warehouse District.
- Ace Hotel Chicago opens on July 1, 2017. This is the first ground-up build of Ace. Located in Chicago's West Loop, this hotel features a lobby restaurant called 'City Mouse', 7th floor bar 'Waydown', and the first Stumptown Coffee store in Chicago.
- Ace Hotel Kyoto is expected to open in late 2019. This will be Ace One's first property in Japan.
In popular culture
The 2011 episode of "Blunderbuss" from the skit comedy series Portlandia has a sketch set at the "Deuce Hotel", where the annoying staff hand out handtables and free typewriters to all guests; it is a special parody of Ace Hotel Portland.
